Summary | 0002907: The 'Toggle Edit Mode' anomaly.
Description | The 'Toggle Edit Mode' facility (within the Edit menu), unecessarily, stops working after certain actions are performed.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Start FreeCAD 2. Create a new empty document. 3. Create a new sketch on the XY plane 4. Draw several primitives on the screen eg. several lines, rectangles, circles, polygons etc (the number of these is not critical to the reproducibility of the problem. NB I will call this screen 'the primitives screen'. 5. Press the escape key to get rid of the last selected primitive. 6. Click on the screen to ensure that there are no primitives, or parts of primitives selected i.e. coloured green. This is important to the explanation of the problem. 7. Select the 'Edit' menu and select 'Toggle Edit Mode'. (I will call this 'the blank screen' because there is no grid visible and it is not possible to add primitives.) 8. Perform 7. again to prove that it is possible to toggle back and forth between edit modes. 9. Settle on the 'blank screen mode' and click anywhere on the screen but not on a primitive. 10. Now try and toggle back to the 'primitives screen' - you will find that the 'Toggle Edit Mode' menuitem is greyed-out and it is now not possible to toggle back to the primitives screen 11. HOWEVER! If a primitive is selected on 'the blank screen' the 'Toggle Edit Mode' menuitem becomes active once more and this is the anomaly between the two Edit Modes.

@chrisb can you reproduce? |

1. Start FreeCAD 2. Create a new empty document. 3. Create a new sketch on the XY plane How? What is your default WB? Guessing Part Design or Sketcher? |

I can reproduce but it shows only that the reporter has not understood the concept of Edit Mode: If a sketch is selected, Edit Mode opens the sketch editor. If nothing is selected, no editor can be opened, the menu item is greyed out. The deselection takes place in point 9 of the list above. In point 11 the sketch is selected again. Works flawless. |
