Summary | 0001976: Error when sweeping a ruled surface
Description | When sweeping a ruled surface, an error occurs. The first time I encountered this error, it wrote something like "Error when writing {adresses}". Then I re-launched FreeCAD and the error occured again, but without anything written in the error box.
Steps To Reproduce | -Defining a ruled surface (in my case: a pipe cross section) -Defining a path -When making the sweep, the ruled surface appears in the column Vertex/edge/wire/face. -Selecting the rule surface as the sweeping section -Selecting the path -Clicking "OK" -It should fail

Can you please provide your OCCT version. |

The sweep is not the problem. The Sketch001 is fails the BOPCheck and there should be a better way to get a planar face, than a ruled surface. >>> App.ActiveDocument.Sketch001.Shape.Vertexes[0].Tolerance 23.3429852075864 >>> App.ActiveDocument.Sketch001.Shape.Vertexes[1].Tolerance 23.3429852075864 |
There seems to be a problem with the ruled surface damaging the vertex tolerances |

@shoogen is this an upstream issue? |
@JPouX I know this is ancient history but is there any possibility you can reupload your attachment to this ticket? |
@Kunda1 Sorry, I have lost the files since then. |
@NormandC can you recreate this issue from scratch? |
@chrisb perhaps you can ? |
I think I did, based on what I could understand. But as shoogen wrote back in 2015, it does not make sense to create a ruled surface from a sketch. 3 years later, the PartDesign workbench now has an additive sweep tool that can sweep a sketch made of two closed profiles inside one another (like a pipe section). In the attached file FC_Issue1976_Sweep_Ruled_Surface_Error_nc1.fcstd, trying to generate a sweep using Ruled_Surface as profile and Sketch as path produces a BRepFill_Sweep::BuildEdge error. I believe we should ignore this issue and close the report as it's not a proper work flow anyway. |
As suggested by normandc the PD workbench offers a proper workflow to do this the right way. |
